In 1978, handheld electronic games were described by Popular Electronics magazine as "nonvideo electronic games" and "non-TV games" as distinct from devices that required use of a television screen. These electronic devices are capable of playing only a single game, they fit in the palm of the hand or on a tabletop, and they may make use of a variety of video displays such as LED, VFD, or LCD. The origins of handheld game consoles are found in handheld and tabletop electronic game devices of the 1970s and early 1980s. The Nintendo DS, released in 2004, introduced touchscreen controls and wireless online gaming to a wider audience, becoming the best-selling handheld console with over 150 million units sold worldwide. The first internet-enabled handheld console and the first with a touchscreen was the released by Tiger Electronics in 1997. Nintendo is credited with popularizing the handheld console concept with the release of the Game Boy in 1989 and continues to dominate the handheld console market. The first handheld game console with interchangeable cartridges is the Milton Bradley Microvision in 1979. The first commercial successful handheld console was Merlin from 1978 which sold more than 5 million units. Later, several companies-including Coleco and Milton Bradley-made their own single-game, lightweight table-top or handheld electronic game devices. In 1976, Mattel introduced the first handheld electronic game with the release of Auto Race. Handheld game consoles are smaller than home video game consoles and contain the console, screen, speakers, and controls in one unit, allowing people to carry them and play them at any time or place. In regards to Songbird's payment method, I would just do as Crowler said and personal message him here on The Ocarina Network, or contact him with the information he gave on his website.Portable self-contained video game consoleĪ Nintendo DS Lite, which will go on being the best-selling handheld console of all time and second overallĪ handheld game console, or simply handheld console, is a small, portable self-contained video game console with a built-in screen, game controls and speakers. ) It is true that there are other more expensive companies, like Maparam or Noble, but Focalink/ Songbird is the cheaper of these three and they have very good quality also. (Or if shipping would be cheaper for where you live, you could just order off Focalink's website. If you are sure, a Focalink 12 hole Alto C from Songbird would be fantastic. THe perfect range for a beginner is an Alto C, in my opinion.īOTTOM LINE- If you are not sure you will like playing the ocarina, go for a seedpod alto c from Songbird. Not to say that no one should ever get a soprano c, but I wouldn't suggest it for a beginner. I wouldn't suggest getting a Soprano C ocarina, though, because it will be very high pitched and it might be discouraging because it's so loud and shrill and hurts your ears while you try to learn. It came with a fingering chart and a few songs to play. The sound quality is fantastic, and it is tuned very accurately. I wasn't sure I wanted to get into ocarina playing that much, so I just chose the seedpod because of its price and the fact that it has almost the same range as a 12 hole. It was relatively cheap, and the shipping was super fast (but I do live in the U.S.). My first ocarina was the Alto C Seedpod from Songbird, and I mut say it was the perfect first ocarina for me.
